Day 2-South Dakota

Doctors, Badlands, Wall Drug, and Nemo

On Sunday night, we noticed that Anders' eyes were pink and goopy and he was running a slight fever. I planned to check with his doctor in the morning, as I suspected pink eye. The fever was a little concerning to me, so I checked with the insurance company and found that Kadoka Clinic in Kadoka, South Dakota was in our network. I called the clinic and they told me to just bring him right in. They were so sweet. We saw Dr. Webb (dressed in jeans), who was very casual. Nobody else came in during our hour visit. We were concerned about the prescription/pharmacy, but have no fear!! Dr. Webb had his own little pharmacy, which saved us a 20 mile trip out of our way to the nearest pharmacy. With pink eye, a fever, and a red throat, he put him on an antibiotic.

We took the route through the Badlands. It was absolutely beautiful!

Daddy and Anders

Loved the scenery!!

When we came out of the Badlands, we had to stop at Wall Drug. It was definitely a tourist trap, but something we had to see (once).

Kris found a lady friend!

Checking it all out.

So long Wall!

Finally, after a long day of driving and a stop in Rapid City for some groceries, we were headed 17 miles out of town to Nemo, South Dakota!! We arrived at the cabin we would be staying at for 4 nights. It was called the "Barnhouse." Joan and Brian were the owners of the cabin and had a house right near the cabin. They were awesome hosts and the cabin was as neat and tidy as a pin!

Anders and Kris checking out the premises and meeting horses.

Great front porch.

I told Anders this was our transportation to dinner :)

This was the ladder to the loft. Every part of the cabin had its unique touch.

A shovel for a curtain rod and some bent spoons to hold it in place.

It took Anders some time to get the courage to climb the ladder to the loft, but after a few tries, he was going up and down with no fears!

Relaxing in the loft!

The Barnhouse was restored by Brian and Joan. They moved from Austin, MN and found the barn, which was falling down. They salvaged the wood from the barn and rebuilt it. The ceiling was cool too--they painted boards white and sprinkled hay on them, followed by a clear coat.
I would recommend this cabin to anyone passing through Nemo!

We were hungry after checking out the cabin, so we headed to Cousin's Pizza. The folks in the pictures were the ones working. Pizza was the trend on our vacation, I guess. :)

Kris ordered hot wings. As you can see, they were hot!

Anders got a kick out of the patio seating. It was a giant rocking chair!

Made it to the top!

When I joined him on top, he decided he should sit down on the chair. He said, "This chair is fit for a king."

Yep, it's big!

On our drive back to the cabin, we noticed this peculiar tree. It was actually a cell phone tower. Clever!
